Ecoactiv and the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme
Ecoactiv and the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme
Ecoactiv, operated by Activ Group Australia Pty Ltd, is an approved co-regulatory arrangement under Australia’s National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme (NTCRS).
The NTCRS was established under the Recycling and Waste Reduction Act 2020 to provide Australian households and small businesses with free access to e-waste collection and recycling services. The scheme is administered by the Australian Government’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) and delivered through approved co-regulatory arrangements like Ecoactiv.
As an approved co-regulatory arrangement, Ecoactiv is responsible for:
- Providing reasonable access to free collection services across metropolitan, regional and remote Australia
- Meeting annual recycling targets set under the scheme
- Achieving a material recovery target of at least 90% by weight
- Ensuring all recycling is carried out in accordance with the AS/NZS 5377 standard
What you can recycle for free
Under the NTCRS, households and small businesses can recycle the following items at no cost:
- Televisions (CRT, plasma, LCD, LED)
- Monitors, desktop computers and laptops
- Printers, scanners and multifunction devices
- Keyboards, mice, cables, chargers and selected computer components
These items contain valuable materials that can be recovered and reused, as well as hazardous substances that need to be managed responsibly. The NTCRS ensures these products are collected and processed safely, keeping them out of landfill and supporting a circular economy.
What is not covered under the NTCRS
The following items are not eligible for free recycling under the scheme:
- Mobile phones and phone accessories
- Batteries (handheld or lead-acid)
- Household appliances (microwaves, kettles, toasters, vacuum cleaners)
- White goods (fridges, washing machines, dryers)
- Lighting and light globes
- Toner and ink cartridges (must be removed before drop-off)
- Game consoles, cameras and audio equipment
Ecoactiv offers paid recycling services for many of these items through our Ready Recycle range and home collection service.

- AS/NZS 5377:2013 — Certified for the collection, storage, transport and treatment of end-of-life electrical and electronic equipment
- ISO 14001:2015 — Environmental Management System certification, providing a framework for managing environmental objectives across our operations
These accreditations ensure that all e-waste processed through Ecoactiv is handled safely, responsibly and in full compliance with Australian regulations.
For manufacturers and importers
If you are a manufacturer or importer of televisions, computers, printers or related products, you may have obligations under the NTCRS. Companies whose importation or production exceeds a set threshold are classified as liable parties and are required to be a member of an approved co-regulatory arrangement.
If you have received correspondence from DCCEEW regarding your obligations under the Recycling and Waste Reduction (Product Stewardship — Televisions and Computers) Rules 2021, Ecoactiv can help. Contact our team to discuss membership and how we can support your compliance requirements.
